The Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) of Prosperidad, through its Livestock and Poultry Section, conducted African Swine Fever (ASF) surveillance and blood sample collection from swine within the five-kilometer radius of the Farmers Alternative for Self-Reliance Multipurpose Cooperative (FASRMCO) Piggery in Barangay San Vicente, a recipient of the Department of Agriculture’s Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion (INSPIRE) Program.
The activity was led by Livestock and Poultry Coordinator Rocelyn Dingal, together with personnel from the Municipal Agriculture Office, in coordination with the Department of Agriculture, the Provincial Veterinary Office, the Barangay Local Government Unit of San Vicente, and local swine raisers.
The surveillance and blood sample collection aimed to establish the ASF health status of the area, generate baseline surveillance data, and ensure that communities surrounding the FASRMCO Piggery remain free from ASFโa highly contagious viral disease that threatens the swine industry. The results will support the evaluation of the area’s eligibility for the INSPIRE Program’s swine restocking component.
Blood samples were collected from selected swine following established veterinary protocols and strict biosecurity measures. All samples were properly documented and submitted for laboratory analysis to support disease surveillance and the safe implementation of the INSPIRE Program.
During the activity, MAO personnel also reminded swine raisers to maintain proper farm sanitation, implement strict biosecurity practices, and promptly report any unusual illness or mortality among their animals. Through continuous monitoring and collaboration with partner agencies and local hog raisers, the Municipal Agriculture Office remains committed to protecting the municipality’s swine industry and ensuring the long-term success of government-supported livestock development programs.
