Through the leadership of Municipal Agriculturist Marlita Cortez, the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) of Prosperidad continues to support initiatives that promote science-based and sustainable agricultural development.

As part of this commitment, Engr. Benjie Fiel Banjao, Engr. Al Requierme, and AT Edgar Allan Basmayor, Barangay Agricultural Workers and Barangay officials assisted the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM) personnel in the conduct of Soil Reference Mapping and Soil Health Monitoring, including soil sample collection in Barangays La Purisima and Mapaga, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.

The activity involved the systematic collection and assessment of soil samples to generate updated and reliable information on the soil characteristics, fertility, and overall health of agricultural lands. The data gathered will contribute to the updating and enhancement of the BSWM’s geospatial soil database, providing an important foundation for agricultural planning, land-use management, crop suitability assessment, and the formulation of science-based soil and nutrient management recommendations.

Our province continues to advocate that accurate soil information is essential in helping farmers maximize productivity while conserving soil resources for future generations. Through updated geospatial data, government agencies and local stakeholders can better identify appropriate crops, improve fertilizer recommendations, and implement sustainable farming practices suited to the unique conditions of each locality.

The Municipal Agriculture Office remains steadfast in supporting programs that strengthen agricultural resilience and ensure that development initiatives are guided by reliable scientific data for the benefit of Prosperidad’s farming communities.
