ENSURING SAFE AND QUALITY MEAT FOR EVERY TABLE: MEAT HANDLERS UNDERGO HYGIENE & SAFETY ORIENTATION
To strengthen public health standards and elevate consumer confidence in local meat products, the Provincial Agriculture and Veterinary Office (PAVO)-Veterinary Operations, headed by Dr. Joriz D. Elevazo, successfully spearheaded an Orientation on Meat Inspection, Hygiene, and Safety for Meat Handlers on August 20, 2026. Organized in close coordination with the Municipal Economic Enterprise Office (MEEO) led by MEEM-Designate Nilo Y. Villamor, the initiative gathered by local meat handlers, including meat vendors, butchers and lechoneros in the municipality. The activity was made possible through the support of our Municipal Mayor Frederick Mark P. Mellana represented by Municipal Administrator Richel B. Tumulak, alongside with SB Member Cesar “Fragen” Romero, Jr., showing strong local government backing for food safety and public health initiatives.
Throughout the orientation, participants were equipped with practical knowledge on National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) rules, proper slaughtering and transport practices, hygienic tool handling, and disease identification. Big thanks to our expert resource speakers, Dr. Edessa Jeane A. Hijara, DVM and Melvin Y. Fortes, for sharing their expertise and guiding our local vendors toward safer, cleaner, and higher-quality meat preparation practices. Together, we continue to build a safer and healthier community!
